Regional Credit & Info Alliances meeting held in Muscat
Export Credit Guarantee Agency hosted the Regional Meeting for Credit Alliance and Info Alliance members in Muscat from 20th to 21st March for Africa and the Middle East. This is the first regional meeting which was held locally. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Nasir bin Issa Al Ismaily of ECGA who is the Regional Coordinator and Member of the General Steering Committee of the Credit Alliance. Mr. Jèrôme Cazes – the Managing Director of COFACE Group as well as other officials from Coface also attended the meeting. In addition to members of the Alliances, the meeting was attended by special guests from the Saudi Development Fund as well as Export Guarantee Fund of Iran. The Inter-Arab Investment Guarantee Corporation also attended the meeting as an Observer of the Credit Alliance. The meeting was highly successful, as it has provided necessary forum of exchanges of information including topics of areas of common interest among various members. Feedbacks from the Regional Meeting were highly important to foster cooperation as will as develop synergies between Credit Alliance and Info Alliance members. Among the areas discussed include availability and quality of information on buyers in the Africa-Middle East Region as well as examination of existing procedures and how to improve on them. Other issues discussed were domestic credit insurance, pre-shipment financing, development of e-commerce and B2B business in the Region as well as the presentation of main services provided by COFACE through the international platform of the Credit Alliance. A number of case studies on claims and debt collection were presented in the workshops.

His Excellency, the Chairman, Sheikh Yaqoob bin Hamed Al Harthy of the Export Credit Guarantee Committee of the Agency hosted the dinner at the Muscat Inter-Continental hotel for the delegates and others for the occasion of the meetings.
Trating launched in the Sultanate of Oman  
COFACE Group in association with the Export Credit Guarantee Agency of the Sultanate of Oman launched the trating product on 21st March at the Inter-Continental Hotel in Muscat. The introduction of trating was presented by Ms. Dominique Tuffrau - the Managing Director of International Development Department and detailed demonstration followed as presented by Mr. Vincent Bouix, the Managing Director of COFACE Group Data Management. The launching was well received by the audience which included exporters, banks, companies and other business establishments. The trating solution provides visibility to companies to attract potential trading partners as well as inspire confidence, insure security and confidentiality of the transaction. During the launching, Majan Brokerage House (MBH) became the first Omani Company to be awarded the quality @rating label certificate. Companies in Oman can avail @rating services through the Export Credit Guarantee Agency’s website at www.ecgaoman.com which is linked with www.cofacerating.com.


Omani non-oil exports increased 
As per the statistical exports data obtained from the Foreign Trade Statistics of the Royal Oman Police, the total non-oil exports during the year 2000 amounted to RO.746.4 million compared to RO 656.7 million for the year 1999. Excluding re-exports, Omani non-oil exports were RO.247.8 million in 1999 compared to RO 201.4 million. This represents remarkable increases of 23%.


Meeting of ECAs and the Secretariat of the Berne Union in Zagreb - Croatia
 
The meeting between ECAs and the Secretariat of the Berne Union – the International Union of Credit and Investment Insurers will be held in Zagreb – Croatia from 13th to 16th of May 2001. The Export Credit Guarantee Agency which has been admitted as an Observer since 1999 will participate in the meeting. The meeting and workshops will review and discuss a number of issues including underwriting matters, development and business trends of members, domestic credit insurance, premium systems, rules and regulations as well as recent developments in the credit insurance business.
